Location
Hard to reach, hard to forget
The resort of Bakhmaro, which is called "village above the clouds" by the locals, is one of the highest "resorts" in Georgia, with about 1900 meters of altitude. Many families from the surrounding area have a cottage here and spend the summer in the high valley. In winter, the place is completely uninhabited and inaccessible without piste bully's or snowmobiles.
Because of its snow safety Bakhmaro was chosen already in Soviet times for development as a ski resort. In 2007, a recent feasibility study by an Austrian consulting firm highlighted the potential of the resort.
